Media General journalists Nadra Mohammed and Christopher Amoako were among the top winners at the ended 6th Northern Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards held on Saturday, October 10, 2025, in Tamale.
Ms Mohammed, TV3’s Savannah Regional Correspondent, won three awards including; Best Reporter in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Best Road Safety Reporter, and Best Female Regional Journalist of the Year 2025.
Her colleague, Christopher Amoako, won Best Reporter in Energy and Electricity.
Abdul Wahab Yumzaa of Zaa TV was adjudged the Overall Best Journalist of the Year.
Other journalists were also honoured in categories including Best Health Reporter of the Year, Best Tourism and Culture Reporter, Best Gender Reporter, and Best Agriculture Reporter.
The awards ceremony was held on the theme: “Empowering the Next Generation: The Role of the Media in Digital Skills, Innovation and Youth Opportunities.”
The Northern Regional GJA Awards recognise journalists and media professionals from the Northern and Savannah Regions for excellence in reporting on issues that affect communities and national development.
The awards cover areas such as health, education, agriculture, WASH, road safety, energy, gender, tourism, and culture.
Ms Mohammed’s reporting has focused on education, health, agriculture, water and sanitation, governance, and road safety in Northern Ghana.
Her road-safety and sanitation stories have highlighted service gaps and accountability issues affecting residents.
The ceremony brought together journalists, media executives, sponsors, traditional authorities, and development partners to celebrate journalism excellence across the northern regions.
Media General’s two journalists were also awarded in the Region’s last edition of awards.
