Police personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and the Operational Team, code-named “Black Cobra,” have seized about 500 cartons of assorted brands of Tramadol in an operation at Widana in the Upper East Region.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following a month-long intelligence-gathering exercise into the activities of suspected drug dealers in the area.
According to the Upper East Regional Police Command, the team recovered the suspected illicit drugs from a privately operated warehouse and some individual residences during the operation.

One suspect, identified as Abdul Ali, 21, a Burkinabe, was arrested and is assisting the police with investigations.

Police preliminary intelligence indicates that the suspected network involved in the importation of the drugs comprises foreign nationals from Mali, Togo, Burkina Faso and Senegal.
The police say the network allegedly uses Widana as a transit and distribution point for the suspected illicit drugs.
The police have since launched investigations to identify and apprehend other persons believed to be connected to the operation.
