Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) in Wa has officially launched its 2026 Students’ Representative Council (SRC) week celebration, with a strong call on learners to embrace innovation, entrepreneurship and responsible leadership as catalysts for national development.

The launch, held at the University’s conference Hall on Monday, June 15, 2026, brought together university management, traditional rulers, learners, government officials, staff and invited guests under the theme: “Empowering the Next Generation through TVET: Driving Innovation, Industrialization, and Youth Entrepreneurship for Ghana’s Future.”

Launching the week-long celebration, the Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., commended the Technical University for its contribution to human capital development in the Region and Ghana, saying the institution continues to train competent professionals, entrepreneurs and innovators who are making meaningful contributions to national development.

The Minister highlighted the significance of having women occupy two of the university’s most influential leadership positions, with both the Vice-Chancellor and SRC President being female.

“This is not only a significant achievement for them personally, but also a powerful statement about the growing opportunities for women to lead and excel,” he said, urging them to demonstrate visionary leadership and excellence to inspire future generations of female leaders.

Puozuing emphasized that leadership thrives on teamwork, collaboration and inclusiveness, encouraging the university’s leadership to remain accessible and engage stakeholders in advancing the institution’s development agenda.

He further underscored the importance of the SRC as a critical structure within tertiary institutions, describing it as the voice of students and a key partner in promoting peace, discipline, dialogue and academic progress on campus.

The Regional Minister challenged them to look beyond graduation and use their knowledge and skills to create jobs, address environmental challenges and contribute to community development.

“The future of the Upper West Region and Ghana lies significantly in your hands. Government remains committed to supporting young people through investments in educational infrastructure, entrepreneurship opportunities and digital innovation, he added.

He also urged students to celebrate responsibly, maintain discipline and reject negative practices such as violence, drug abuse and examination malpractice.

Ing. Dr. Nana Yaw Danquah Twumasi, the Dean of Student Affairs, encouraged students to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship as essential tools for national progress and economic transformation.

The SRC President, Nyuuri Diana said the celebration offers learners an opportunity to reflect on their purpose, showcase their talents and strengthen bonds within the university community.

She noted that the theme aligns with the critical role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in driving industrialization and sustainable economic growth.

“As students of a technical university, we are not only acquiring knowledge; we are developing practical skills, innovative mindsets and entrepreneurial abilities that will enable us to become solution providers, job creators and leaders of change,” she said.

According to her, Ghana’s future depends on a generation of young people who are equipped with the skills and determination to drive industrial growth, create sustainable businesses and harness technology to solve societal challenges.

She encouraged students to actively participate in the various activities lined up for the week, which are designed to inspire creativity, foster unity, encourage healthy competition and promote personal and professional development.
