Concerned citizens in the Upper West Region have called on contractors working on the Wa–Bole–Wenchi road project to ensure high construction standards and deliver durable work that reflects value for public funds.

“Wa–Bole–Wenchi road is “too important to be compromised” and that “the people are watching with both eyes.”

In a press statement issued on May 15, 2025, and signed by a concerned citizen, Aziz Donla, he described the Wa–Bole–Wenchi road as a “critical artery” linking the Upper West Region to the rest of Ghana, stressing that traders, farmers, students, drivers and families rely heavily on the road for transport and economic activities.

The statement noted that road users had endured years of dust, potholes, poor drainage and dangerous sections that continue to threaten lives and livelihoods.

Now that construction has commenced, the group said citizens expect “nothing less than quality, professionalism and value for money.”

The statement warned against substandard road works, saying many roads across the country deteriorate shortly after completion because contractors cut corners.

“This project is not just another contract. It is a lifeline for thousands across the region. A poorly constructed road wastes public funds and continues to expose motorists and passengers to accidents, vehicle damage, and economic hardship,” the statement said.

The statement specifically called on construction firm Maripoma to ensure the proper installation of drainage systems, the use of quality materials, the timely completion of the project, strict adherence to engineering standards, and transparency throughout the construction process.

It also urged government agencies and supervising authorities to intensify monitoring and inspections to guarantee a durable road that would serve residents for many years.

The statement further commended the government and the 11 Members of Parliament from the Upper West Region for their support of the project and praised the youth in the region for their continued advocacy for development.

“The people of the Upper West Region deserve better infrastructure. Citizens are more informed and vocal than ever, and we will not accept shoddy work disguised as development,” the statement added.
