Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, founder and leader of the Movement for Change (M4C) has explained why he rejected the first ministerial appointment from former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

After becoming President in 2001, Alan Kyerematen says he was the first person John Kufuor appointed a minister, a position Alan says he declined.

Explaining his reason, the founder of the Movement for Change says he was already engaged by the United Nations and had a lot on his hands, the reason he asked Kufuor to rather consider others.

His comments come on the back of what he describes as the animosity that greeted his presence in the NPP years ago, forcing his resignation from the party recently.

Speaking on Pae Mu Ka on Onua FM Thursday, April 18, 2024, Alan Kyerematen says he rather preferred sitting back to watch and give directions, should anything go wrong in the administration than taking a ministerial position.

“When he (Kufuor) became President, I was the first person he appointed a minister and I was bold to tell him that I don’t need your appointment. I was working with the UN already before helping you to become President. Give it to those who are looking for posts so that we will sit back and watch and correct you when you go wrong. He never forgave me looking at how people were grappling for positions and  me rejecting it.

“He then pleaded with me that if I didn’t want the ministerial position, I should take the role of the US Ambassador because if didn’t get a competent person to hold that position, it will greatly affect his administration and that he had to really plead through my wife and family before I accepted,” he disclosed.

‘I took too long to exit the NPP; the animosity started long ago’ – Alan Kyerematen
