Mother of a 4-year-old girl who has allegedly been defiled by a 50-year-old man has said virginity cannot be sold for ₵4,500 even if it was something for sale.

Her comment comes after family of the 50-year-old man who allegedly defiled her daughter offered to pay ₵4,500 to settle the matter out of court.

The mother, who was narrating her ordeal on Onua TV/FM’s special edition of Maakye on Friday, December 30, 2022, said the police backed down on their assurances of preparing the suspect to court after they were told to go home and return to the office the next day.

“The police inspector told us to return later for them to prepare the issue for court. So we went there later and realised the entire matter has turned around. The police said the man was sick so he would be released in just 6 months after being jailed and the ups and downs are all going to require money.

“So they told us to come home and settle the matter for the man’s family to settle us with GH₵4,500.00. But we didn’t take the money,” Abigail Amoah, the victim’s mother narrated.

She continued that “we want him to pay for his crimes. He is now at home and he is able to go to the market to buy foodstuffs to prepare food. He even reads newspapers but they said he is sick.

“This is not an issue for us to take money and leave it because the child is very young. And besides virginity is not something that’s sold for ₵4,500 even if it was something that’s sold. I want them to help us get justice for the child.”

“Because we rejected the money, they have given us our balance to leave the house so we are looking for rent,” she added.

Meanwhile, a police CID with the Kasoa Divisional DOVVSU by name Sandra had allegedly demanded ₵500 from the ₵4,500 the suspect’s family resorted to pay as her share.
