A Communications Team member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kingsley Amoakwa-Boadu has spoken against what he says is the haste with which the Cecilia Abena Dapaah matter is being discussed in the public space.

The law lecturer says rather than drawing political leanings into the matter, the substance in it should be the focus.

Citing the infamous Alfred Agbesi Woyome judgement debt scandal, the NPP communicator indicated that his party at the time composed songs to characterise the issue but didn’t yield any result.

He has therefore admonished the public, on TV3’s the KeyPoints Saturday, May 04, 2024, that rather than politicising the issue, the concentration should be on the substance of the case.

“It is the haste with which we attempt at resolving this matter in the public space that I’m concerned about. You see, money has been found with someone. We’ve done all the backs and forth instead of going into the matter, we’ve attached all political spins to it. In the end, we haven’t made any progress.

“If it was just a political spin, man, ‘Woyome Woyome!, Woyome Woyome!…’ you know what we thought we would get after we coined this song. Where did it go?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, speaking on the same show indicated that President Akufo-Addo’s comments after the woman’s resignation and the way and manner the government is treating the matter is worsening issues for the woman.

“If she was able to account for that money, matter ends. Nobody can say that she’s a criminal. But if she is not able to account for that money, then it raises serious legal issues that are worth probing and even prosecuting, because that will bother on criminal offences and all that.

“Let’s conduct credible and transparent investigations. Right from the get-go, this government led by the President himself has acted in ways that show that they are not interested in an investigation at all.

“If they think that they are helping Madam Cecilia Dapaah in doing so, then they are mistaken, because they are actually worsening the case for Cecilia Dapaah. It is in the interest of Cecilia Dapaah that this matter is investigated in a credible and transparent way that engenders confidence in the process that she is able to make a case and justify the source of this money and why she was keeping that home,” Sammy Gyamfi, a private legal practitioner noted.

President AKufo-Addo, after accepting the resignation of Madam Cecilia Dapaah noted that “I am confident, like you, that, at the end of the day, your integrity, whilst in office, will be fully established. I wish you the very best in all your endeavours.”
