President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his entire government, according to the National Communications Officer of the NDC are “dishonest. These are a bunch of liars. You can’t take their word for it.”

Sammy Gyamfi’s comments come on the back of President Akufo-Addo’s statement that load-shedding which is known as ‘dumsor’, has been solved and will never return.

During the May Day celebration in Accra Wednesday, the President indicated that he has solved the intermittent power supply which has become a bane on the citizenry, indicating the challenge would not be experienced by Ghanaians again.

“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for their patience and understanding during the recent temporary challenges with electricity supply across the country. Over the period, the issues surrounding transformers and gas supply have been successfully resolved resulting in sufficient improvement in power supply reliability.

“Indeed, over the past few days, we have witnessed stable electricity supply across the country with no load-shedding reported anywhere yesterday (Tuesday, April 30). For the past seven years we have worked tirelessly to keep the lights on and I am confident that the unfortunate era of dumsor will not return,” he stated.

But reacting to the issue on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, May 04, 2024, Sammy Gyamfi said the government cannot be taken serious after telling Ghanaians there was nothing like dumsor.

According to him, although dumsor was prevalent even on the day the President said it was over, he is struggling to understand why he claimed to have solved a problem which he said never existed.

He listed some places which experienced power outage on the day Akufo-Addo said the challenge was over, including the days afterwards.

“These people have no respect for Ghanaians. Because you can see the display of obscene arrogance and insensitivity to the plight of Ghanaians. At first, they said it was not dumsor. What is the English name for dumsor? Load-shedding.

“Now the President says load-shedding has been solved. How do you solve a problem which never existed? Then they said, this problem was because 630 transformers had been overloaded. The PURC investigated it and established that it was false.

“They lied. Now the President comes to tell us that they’ve solved the problem. Dumsor is over. Then the night before he spoke, I slept in dumsor. The day he spoke, that Tuesday, May day, there was dumsor at Pantang, SSNIT Flats, Ogbojo, Adenta, Madina, Tarkwa, Takoradi, Spintex Road, all those areas, dumsor on the day he was speaking,” the private legal practitioner asserted.

Meanwhile, a Communications Team member of the NPP, Kingsley Amoakwa-Boadu, speaking on the same show indicated that the fact that the President said dumsor wouldn’t return did not mean there can not be a power outage when there is a challenge somewhere.
