The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has asked Ofoase-Ayirebi Member of Parliament, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, to apologise to Ghanaians for lying to the public over the Bank of Ghana (BoG) losses.

According to him, Oppong Nkrumah has described the GHC15.6 billion operating loss of the BoG as false during an earlier press conference on May 6, 2026.

Oppong Nkrumah had explained that the actual loss incurred by the central bank was GHC44 billion, a fact he claimed BoG and the government wanted to cover up.

However, Gyamfi, in a Facebook post on Sunday, May 10, 2026, questioned why Oppong Nkrumah’s “operating loss” has now become a “total loss”, while responding to the former Information Minister’s reaction to his submission on TV3’s KeyPoints a day earlier.

Gyamfi, in his response to the lawmaker, insisted the figures he is throwing around with different descriptions expose his inconsistency and urged him to do what is expected of him as an honourable MP.

“…all the figures you cited in your presser about BoG’s losses in past years, were “operating losses” not “total losses”. You cannot be comparing “operating losses” of the BoG in past years to what you term as “total loss” in 2025. Learn to compare like with like. That’s the kind of analysis honorable men are expected to engage in,” Sammy Gyamfi said in his response on Facebook.

He continued that the financial health of an institution is measured by its audited income statement and “not the Other Comprehensive Income statement, that mainly captures unrealized revaluation gains/losses and exchange differences.”

“I maintain that the “operating loss” recorded in the audited financials of the BoG for the year 2025 is GHS15.6 billion.”

He admonished the legislator to apologise to the public for lying over the matter. “My brother KON, you lied! Apologize and let’s move on.”
