A seven-year-old boy has drowned in a water-filled manhole pit at Abuom Redtop, near the West Hills Mall on Sunday, October 26, 2025, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
A Facebook post by the GNFS accompanied with a video on Monday, October 27, 2025, had the officers retrieving the boy from the pit.
Although the officer tried their best to save the boy, he was pronounced dead at the site. Meanwhile, it is unclear what caused the boy’s falling into the pit filled with water.
Residents within the vicinity have expressed shock and sadness over the incident, with many urging local authorities to ensure safety standards are improved and adhered to protect children and the vulnerable from such incidents.
