A 34-year-old man has reportedly died following the collapse of a galamsey pit at Chirano in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai municipality of the Western North region.
According to reports, Obed Asamoah, the deceased, had gone to the site to work alongside his fellow miners when the incident occurred.
In an interview, his brother, Nana Akwasi Danso, confirmed the unfortunate tragedy. He recounted that he had spoken with his brother earlier that morning, but a few hours later, he received a distressing call informing him that the pit had caved in on him.
The victim was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased’s mortal remains have been deposited at the Bibiani Government Hospital morgue for preservation, while the police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
