It has emerged that the Assistant Headteachers, Akwasi Anane, who died after a galamsey pit collapsed on him was a polling station secretary for the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Mr. Anane according to reports had a galamsey concession which he inspects on a regular basis to ensure his workers don’t shortchange him of his gold.

He had visited his site around 9pm Tuesday night at Manso Mpatasie in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti region.

He was also a Unit Committee Secretary at Mpatasie.

The 47-year-old died after a galamsey pit caved on him at his visit Tuesday night.

The Amansie South District has gained notoriety in the illegal mining business with the District Chief Executive being summoned to the Jubilee House to answer questions during President Akufo-Addo’s visit to the Manhyia Palace to meet his appointees and the National House of Chiefs on the menace.
