The Western Central Regional Police Command has strongly refuted media reports suggesting that three suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Mr. Andrews Amankwah have escaped from lawful custody.
In a press release issued on Monday, April 27, 2026, the Command described the publications as “entirely false and misleading,” urging the general public to disregard them immediately.
The suspects – Kojo Amponsah (alias Kamakazie), Emmanuel Appiah (alias Taller), and Tanko Bashiru (alias TK) – were arrested in Kumasi on February 22 and 26, 2026, following intelligence-led operations.
Their arrests were linked to the murder of Mr. Amankwah, which occurred at Owhim Tigo Junction in Kumasi, as well as a series of suspected car theft cases, including incidents reported in Tarkwa.
Contrary to the alleged reports of an escape, the police clarified that all three accused persons have been formally charged and remanded into custody at the Tarkwa Local Prison. They are scheduled to reappear before the court on May 7, 2026.
To verify their status, a team from the Regional Command visited the Tarkwa Local Prison earlier today, confirming that all three suspects remain in lawful custody.
The Command also issued a stern warning to individuals who create or circulate false news capable of causing fear, panic, or undermining public confidence. It stated that such persons are “liable to arrest and prosecution under the laws of Ghana.”
