The Minister for Works and Housing, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei says 251 units of housing for the Akosombo dam spillage victims have been completed.
He says Some contractors are still moving to site to ensure 1,010 under phase one are done before they move to the second phase of the project.
“The Ministry was also tasked to settle the Akosombo dam spillage victims, and we validated 202,225 homes to be worked on. The project actually started in 2024 but in 2025 when we took office, that’s when we started actually hitting the ground running. Phase One, we are supposed to do 1,010 homes and this is for the three highly affected districts. So far, we’ve done 251, units, and it is currently ongoing.
Some contractors are still moving to site to ensure that we are able to finish the first phase of the 1,010 before we move to the second phase of the of the project. The second phase will be 1,215 housing units. But the budget this year gave us GHC3 to GHC6 million for it, and we are still negotiating to get more so that we can complete it for the good people that were affected by the spillage,” he said.
Kenneth Gilbert Adjei was speaking when the Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang paid a working visit to the Ministry on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

The meeting discussed the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of policies in the works, housing, and water resources sectors.
Giving an overview of the Ministry and projects being undertaken, the Minister said key projects include the construction of 1.76 km of storm drains under the 2020-2024 National Flood Control Program, dredging 936 cubic meters of silt, and community upgrading works in various stages.

He said Coastal management protected 84 km of coastline, with ongoing projects at 60% completion.
He added that the affordable housing projects are progressing, with 800 units completed and 430 units in the pipeline.
‘’So far, 800 units of the affordable housing project is being done progressively by TDC, and we have advanced arrangements in place to complete the famous Saglemi housing project with a selected developer. So very soon, we will sign the agreement. It is currently at AG to do some finalization and we will see the contractor on site,” the Minister assured.

Kenneth Gilbert Adjei also told the Vice President and her team that his outfit is embarking on the district housing project.
“Mostly when you send doctors and engineers and others to the districts, they don’t want to go because where to live is a problem. So we are embarking on that currently, that’s what we call the Greenville district housing project, and we are having a pilot phase within eight districts,”he revealed.
The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, urged the Ministry to constantly update the public of work being done for better visibility.
She highlighted the importance of teamwork and the contributions of all ministry staff, not just those in visible roles.
