Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has revealed that the government has invested approximately GH₵10 billion in the road sector since January 2024.
Presenting the mid-year budget on Tuesday, July 23, Dr. Amin Adam explained that this substantial investment aims to “enhance transportation and spur economic growth.”
He further announced that the government has acquired equipment to support local authorities in improving community roads nationwide.
In addition to road infrastructure, Dr. Amin Adam highlighted progress on several key projects, including:
• Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital
• Ofankor-Nsawam Road
• Keta Water Supply
• Obetsebi Lamptey and Flower Pot Interchanges
• Three by-passes on the Kumasi-Accra Highway
• Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line
He also noted the completion of the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi and the Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale.
Regarding the Agenda 111 project, Dr. Amin Adam reported that hospitals, including the Afari Hospital in Kumasi, are at various stages of completion.
To further advance digitalization and expand the unique identification system, the government has invested about GH₵135 million in the National Identification Programme since January 2024.
Dr. Amin Adam also introduced the Economic Roads Improvement Programme (ERIP), designed to stimulate economic activity by connecting production areas with market centers and tourist sites.
Key roads prioritized under ERIP include:
• Accra-Kumasi Highway
• Accra-Takoradi Highway
• Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta Junction
• Tema-Afienya Road
These projects, he noted, are supported by structured financial arrangements to ensure timely completion.
