The World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Africa, Prof. Janabi, has reaffirmed his outfit’s strong support for the Ghana’s health sovereignty agenda and ongoing national reforms.

Prof Janabi gave the assurance when he met with President John Mahama during a high-level visit to Ghana.

During the meeting, Prof. Janabi commended the President’s vision for health sovereignty under the Accra Reset initiative, describing it as a bold step toward building resilient, self-reliant health systems.

He reaffirmed WHO’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s national health reforms, particularly efforts to strengthen sustainable health financing and advance primary health care (PHC) as the foundation for equitable service delivery.

 


Earlier, Prof. Janabi paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Health, where he praised Ghana’s bold and progressive health reforms.

He also emphasized WHO’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the government to accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring that all Ghanaians can access quality health services without financial hardship.

The engagements underscored the strong partnership between Ghana and WHO, anchored on shared priorities of health system strengthening, national ownership, and improved health outcomes for the population.
