Captain Smart has questioned the government’s interest in the prosecution of galamsey kingpin, Aisha Huang and three others.

According to Captain Smart, the very charges the ‘galamsey queen’ is being tried on were the same issues raised in her earlier arrest.

However, government whilst the case was ongoing, said it was not interested in it again.

Then Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo said to maintain the relationship between Ghana and China, Aisha Huang should not be tried but rather be deported.

Few years after her supposed deportation, she was rearrested for engaging in same crimes, making many question how she gained entrance into the country after her deportation.

President Akufo-Addo had said he is not sure whether Aisha Huang was actually deported or not during a radio interview in Ho.

“I’m not still sure whether she was in fact deported. Or whether she fled the country the first time and has now come back. There still seems to be some uncertainty about it.

“But whichever way it is, she’s become the sort of nickname for all that galamsey represents,” President Akufo-Addo disclosed.

But Information Minister, Oppong Nkrumah said the President was being misquoted by the media, saying he didn’t say what was being peddled around but rather responded to a direct question he was asked.

“The President was not speaking in a vacuum. There was a question about deportation and the President proceeded to respond that he is not too sure whether it is about deportation or whether she fled but then the substantive thing is this and then he proceeded to provide the substantive answer.

“I have heard several commentators suggest that there should have been more clarity in the President’s words etc. I mean in a democracy I am sure that we can always raise questions about the choice of words,” he explained Tuesday, September 13, 2022 on Accra-based Joy FM.

Speaking on the Onua Maakye show Thursday, September 15, 2022, Captain Smart questioned the cause of the sudden interest in prosecuting the galamsey queen whose case the state had issued a nolle prosequi.

He has reprimanded the government for discontinuing the earlier case and pretending to be expressing interest this time around, probably because of the media expositions ion the issue.

Captain Smart’s statement stems from comments made by the counsel for Aisha Huang, Captain Nkrabea Effah Dartey (Rtd), saying his client has the right of movement in Ghana as every human being does.

According to Mr. Dartey, no law bares Aisha Huang from entering Ghana as many are raising concerns on since she was not deported from the country.

His statement gives further credence to insinuations being raised by a section of the public on the deportation of Aisha Huang.

“Ibwas the first person to say Aisha Huang was not deported and now the reality is daunting on us. The president has said he is not sure and her lawyer, Nkrabea Effah Dartey –a former minister in the NPP, a former MP in the NPP and a former flagbearer hopeful of the NPP says she was not deported so who are you deceiving,” Captain Smart ranted.
