There is growing fear among traders and drivers who ply the Wassa Sefwi Bekwai road in the Western North Region, following another armed robbery attack on Thursday night.

The incident, which occurred around 9 p.m. on October 23, 2025, marks the third robbery on that stretch in recent months.

Traders returning from the Wassa Ayiem, Sraha, and Juabo markets were ambushed by armed men between Sefwi Bekwai Baakokrom and Muoho.

Eyewitnesses said the robbers, numbering about six, opened fire on vehicles, seized money and goods from the traders, and fled into the nearby bush.

In a separate attack the same night, another group of robbers struck between Wassa Ankwaaso and Sefwi Humjabrɛ, shooting a man and making away with his brand new unregistered four-wheel drive before abandoning him by the roadside.

Residents suspect that the robbers often strike after rainfall, taking advantage of poor road visibility and reduced police patrols.

“They took everything from us. Anytime it rains, the robbers come out. We are afraid to travel at night now,” one driver lamented.
“We are calling on the police to patrol this road regularly, especially when it rains. That’s when these attacks usually happen,” another trader added.

Traders and drivers are appealing to the Western North and Western Regional Police Commands to intensify patrols and provide 24-hour security protection on the Wassa Bekwai road, particularly during the night and rainy periods.

Police in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
