The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has issued a security advisory to Ghanaians living in South Africa, urging heightened vigilance and strict adherence to personal safety measures amid planned demonstrations in Pretoria.
In a statement dated April 28, 2026, the Mission advised members of the Ghanaian community to prioritise their safety as a protest by the March Organisation is expected to take place today (April 28) at the Presidency over immigration-related concerns.
The High Commission cautioned that the demonstrations could create volatile situations and therefore encouraged Ghanaians to avoid areas where protests are being held.
The Commission further advised shop owners to close their businesses for the day as a precautionary measure.
The Mission further urged individuals to refrain from participating in public gatherings that could escalate into confrontations.
It also called on community members to maintain a low profile and exercise discretion both in public spaces and on online platforms.
Ghanaians were also advised to avoid sharing content that could be considered provocative or inflammatory, as tensions surrounding the demonstrations remain high.
The High Commission assured the community that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.
