Former French international, Zinedine Yazik Zidane, has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid (for the second time) at the end of the 2020-21 season.

He has had chances to return to the dugout, but has turned multiple approaches down.

However, he has now agreed to take over at boyhood club Olympique Marseille, who are currently looking for a new manager after Marcelino walked out on the job after just a few matches in charge.

But, Zidane’s appointment at Marseille is far from straightforward. He has agreed terms with the Saudi Arabian consortium that are trying to purchase the Ligue 1 side – as per France Bleu – but not with the club’s current owner, Frank McCourt.

Zidane has reportedly been promised a €300m package by the Saudis to take over at Marseille, and that will come into effect if the Saudis can prise the club away from McCourt, who has previously stated that he has no intention of selling.

Zidane has been linked with Real Madrid on multiple occasions since leaving in 2021, but it now looks to be that he will return to management elsewhere. However, further steps are required before that becomes a reality.
