23 persons have died with 25 others injured in a head-on collision between a Yendi – Kumasi bound Grandbird bus with registration number AS 4635-22 and an articulated truck with registration number GW 1127-P.

The incident happened around 11pm Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Kintampo radio’s Adams Wumpini tells OnuaOnline the articulated truck was carrying tiles from Kumasi to Tamale whilst the Grandbird bus conveying 52 passengers from Yendi to Kumasi.

He says a spoilt vehicle at a police checkpoint at a community called Babato Kumah, few metres from the Kintampo Waterfalls caused the accident.

According to Adams, the truck whose path the faulted vehicle was parked tried making a way through the other lane and collided with the Grandbird bus which was coming from the opposite direction.

Adams says 22 bodies had been deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital morgue with the last body being prepared for add up as at the time this report was being filed.

Medical Superintendent of the Kintampo Government Hospital according to Adams indicated about six persons are in critical condition whom they want to transfer to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

However, management of both teaching hospitals say there are no beds and therefore awaiting further calls before the transfers would be made.

One of the two Grandbird drivers who survived the accident said he drove from Yendi to Tamale before his colleague who unfortunately died took over from him.

Meanwhile, the Bono East regional minister, Kwaku Adu Gyan, visited the accident scene and the hospital with the National Ambulance Service, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service.
