The Black Stars of Ghana have begun their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a win against Madagascar.

The game, which was a stalemate after 90 minutes of regulation time was given an additional 5 minutes for injury time.

A 96th-minute cross from Gideon Mensah was headed into the post of the Malagasy by Inaki Williams who until then, was yet to find the net for Ghana.

The Barea of Madagascar dominated most of the first department of the game keeping the Ghanaian goalkeeper, Richard Ofori busy in most parts of the first half.

Coach Chris Hughton made several changes in the second half making Ghana gain dominance to create some chances which were saved by the Madagascar pair of hands.

With much pressure from the side in the dying minutes of the game, the Black Stars lightened the Baba Yara Sports Stadium after the last minute goal in the game.

Ghana’s second group tie is against Group I leaders, Comoros, who have 3 points with two goals after defeating Central African Republic by 4 goals to 2.
