Host of Maakye on Onua TV/FM, Blessed Godsbrain Smart has said until President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo sacks Chairman Wontumi, his fight against galamsey would forever be a figment of his imagination.

Captain Smart was commenting on the President’s visit to the Ashanti Region over the increasing galamsey and other projects halted in the garden city after Onua TV/Akoma FM jointly held a Peoples’ Assembly which brought to bear several issues confronting the residents.

Captain Smart, who has mentioned Bernard Antwi Bosiako, a.k.a. Wontumi, a regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, as a kingpin in the illegal mining business said the President’s visit to discuss among other things, the increasing galamsey in the region would yield no result until Wontumi is ousted.

“There is only one media house in this country that can go to the Ashanti region and in less than a week, the president has to go there. Because the issues popping up are many. But Nana Addo, sack Wontumi before you can fight galamsey. Until you sack him, you can never fight galamsey,” he said.

On roads and infrastructure, whilst Onua TV and Akoma FM reporters relayed that some roads, specifically Santasi Apire, was in bad shape, some residents who are believed to be party faithful debunked the reports saying the road was under.construction.

The KNUST Teaching Hospital which the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, asked the president to complete for him in 2017 is still in ruins.

But party officers and government officials in the region noted €80 million has been deposited into the University’s account to complete the project. Meanwhile, Otumfuo is going round making appeals upon appeals to get the facility completed.

Other issues also popped up during the Peoples’ Assembly at the GNAT Hall in Kumasi where some market women said they have been given monies by government to expand their businesses without knowledge of the leadership of the market.

The Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III has summoned the claimants and the leadership to explain how different associations were formed to receive government funds without the knowledge of the custodians of the markets.

Captain Smart, speaking on his show Wednesday, October 5, 2022 noted the president must be vigilant because contractors can be ordered to resume work on several abandoned projects overnight to create the impression that all was well.
