The Paramount Chief of Ekumfi traditional area, Odeefo Akyin VIII has asked Ghanaians to treat as “malicious, untrue and mischievous”, any attempts to link him or the traditional authority to demand for the autopsy report of the late former President, John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.
The Ekumfi traditional authority has asked the public to treat any such actions with the contempt they deserve.
In a statement issued by the Ekumfi Chiefs Monday, January 29, 2024, they said they have no idea of any group that recently visited the Jubilee House to demand the autopsy report of Professor Mills from President Akufo-Addo.
“To set the records straight, the Paramount Chief Odeefo Akyin VIII has not elected nor delegated anybody nor any group of persons to His Excellency (H.E.) the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or any other institution to demand an Autopsy on the late Professor Mills for us, or on behalf of the family.
“We therefore want to state emphatically that any attempt to link the Chiefs of Ekumfi to any such action is malicious, untrue and mischievous, and must be treated with the contempt it deserve,” the statement contained in some parts.
The statement has also cautioned the public, especially indigenes of Ekumfi, to desist from allowing themselves to be used to perpetuate any shameful act relating to the demise of Prof. Mills.
“Ekumfi Nananom led by the Paramount Chief Odeefo Akyin VIII also wish to send a strong signal to anyone or group of persons purported to come from Ekumfi or elsewhere, and who allow themselves to be used to perpetuate such disgraceful and malicious act, may have to prepare to face the wrath of Nananom,” the statement indicated.
“The late Professor Atta Mills must be allowed to rest in peace!” it added.
The comments follow the recent banter between the maternal and paternal families of the late President where a faction is demanding the report with the other saying they have it.
The maternal family of the late Prof. Mills, has, in a recent visit to the Jubilee House, asked President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to help them secure the autopsy report of their kinsman.
On January 12, 2024, the Kyedomhemaa of Ekumfi Asaman, Nana Enyinfua III, who is the head of the maternal family of the late Mills appealed to the President when she visited with other family members to thank Akufo-Addo for renovating the Asomdwe Park –burial grounds of Prof. Mills –for them.
But, brother of the late President, Samuel Atta Mills, after the maternal family’s demand, has in a series of media interviews, indicated that the “legitimate” family members of the late first gentleman of the land has his autopsy report which is not a document for public records.
