President of the Republic, William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has stated that the erratic power supply bedeviling Ghanaian businesses has abated and will not reoccur.

He says the transformers that encountered challenges to necessitate the intermittent outages otherwise known as ‘dumsor‘ have all been fixed.

According to the President, the resolution of the challenge led a nationwide stable power throughout the whole of Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

“Issues surrounding the maintenance of the transformers have been resolved, Indeed we have witnessed stable power supply across the country with no load shedding reported anywhere yesterday…I am confident that the unfortunate era of dumsor will not return,” he said at his May Day address Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr Yaw Baah, prior to the President’s address, reemphasised the need for action from him (Akufo-Addo) to address the dumsor before things got out of hand.

He had said at the Police Fitness Centre where the May Day celebration was held that, the ongoing power challenges, if not resolved quickly, will severely impact businesses and could lead to widespread unemployment.

He urged President Akufo-Addo and the government to take immediate steps to mitigate the effects of the situation as soon as possible.

“Mr President, my second appeal is about dumsor. Mr President, it is regrettable that the people of Ghana have to experience dumsor again after all that we went through in the past, we have to go through it again. Please do something about it now.”

Meanwhile, Vice President and flag bearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, at a breakfast meeting with NPP regional leaders ahead of the start of his nationwide tour in the Eastern Region Monday, April 29, assured Ghanaians that the Energy Ministry was actively managing the challenges in the power sector.

“I know that there are challenges, we are going to work on them. Currently, we have issues with power, the assurance from the Minister for Energy is that those power challenges will very soon be a thing of the past, they are working at it,” he said.
