The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, not to hesitate to report to him whenever his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, goes wrong.
He wants Dr. Bawumia to report any act of wrongdoing on the part of the Energy Minister, who is also known as Nana Poku (NAPO) to him, so that he can reprimand him himself since he is a royal from the palace.
This advice comes on the back of claims that, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is arrogant, an assertion that comes as a surprise to the Asantehene, who says NAPO was not arrogant when he was being nurtured.
He gave the advice at a mini durbar at the Manhyia Palace Tuesday, July 09, 2024, when President Akufo-Addo introduced both the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to him.
“Bawumia, I have given you my grandchild, if he goes astray, let me know and I will reproach him indoors,” the Otumfuo advised.
He went on to advise the Manhyia South MP to humble himself and submit to Dr. Bawumia as he partners him to seek the highest office of the land come December.
The Asantehene noted that although he advised him in closed doors, it was important to reiterate what he said in there in public in order to appreciate the enormity of the advice.
“Follow him with humility. Do what he will tell you. A lot of people are saying you are arrogant but you were not like that at home. So don’t let what they have been saying be confirmed,” the Asantehene advised.
