Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Korley Klortey, has told the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) that it cannot buy Ghanaians going into the 2024 elections.
She says the monetisation of politics in the country makes the government assume it can buy the citizens over to win them power, something she says will not materialise in the upcoming elections.
During her speech at the launch of the NDC’s 2024 campaign in Tamale, the Northern regional capital, on the theme; Change to reset Ghana, she said “enough is enough” when it comes to politics.
“Fellow comrades, the reality we are faced with today, is that our politics has become so monetised that these people believe everybody can be bought at a price and we have to prove them wrong. We have to tell them enough is enough!” she indicated.
She cited the World Bank fund for the GARID project for instance which she says members of the government have shared amongst themselves, indicating that is not going to have an impact in the lives of Ghanaians.
“The money that they receive from the World Bank for the reengineering of the GARID project that they squandered and people are now sharing, that money is not going to make a change in the lives of Ghanaians. That money is not going to improve the economy,” she added.
Zanetor has also been saying that corruption has been the biggest threat for Ghana under the NPP administration, assuring the public that the next NDC administration headed by John Dramani Mahama will set the standards high when it comes to the canker.
“Do you know that the biggest threat to our democracy is corruption? It is not what we are seeing happening around us in other countries. It is corruption.
“And this is corruption that has been presided over by this NPP government. But today, what we have to do, is to promise one another, and to promise John Mahama that we will set the bar high when it comes to zero tolerance with respect to corruption,” she indicated.
