Hearts of Oak have expressed condolences to the family of a fan who collapsed and later died after the side conceded in their 2024 Homowo Peace Charity Cup Match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
William Nii Laryea collapsed after Heart of Lions’ Kwadwo Obeng Jnr scored in only the 3rd minute against the Phobians.
The fan was immediately attended to by the medics on duty but was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
In a statement to commiserate with the family, Hearts of Oak described Nii Laryea as “a very passionate fan of the club who made time to watch all of our games, either home or away matches”.
“His departure to eternity will not only affect his immediate family but also we as a club since we would lose his unflinching support and the passion with which he followed the club.”
The club assured of liaising with the family “to ensure that we would contribute positively towards a successful final funeral rite of William Nii Laryea”.
Hearts of Oak went on to equalise the goal and win the game 8-7 on penalties.
