Founder and leader of Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Christian Kwabena Andrews, also known as ‘Kyiri Abosom’, has asked Ghanaians to avoid the NPP and NDC in the upcoming elections.
He says the policies of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) have not been beneficial to the entire country but only a section of the populace.
“It’s better they avoid NDC and NPP because whatever they do doesn’t cover everybody in this country,” he told OnuaOnline in an exclusive interview Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
In his explanation, he stated that certain projects the two parties have touted themselves with, such as construction of interchanges and regional hospitals benefit only the people in the specific areas they are constructed.
“They tell you we have built a regional hospital, those in Tamale what are they going to get from that regional hospital? I’ve built Kasoa Interchange, what about those in Sefwi Wiawso?” he quizzed.
He stated that his party is going to implement policies that will benefit the entire country.
“We want things that everybody will enjoy across the country. We are bringing a seed capital for the youth of this country. Everybody is going to get about 10,000 Ghana Cedis, from 20 years to 50 years. Somebody will ask where are you going to get this money?
“You understand each MP gets US$100,000 for a 4×4 vehicle. 100,000 is 16 billion (In old Ghana Cedis). Divide that by 10,000 Ghana Cedis for this youth. Over 1,600 people will benefit from that very 16 billion and multiply it by 275. How many people are going to get such amount of money? So we need to psyche our mind and know that these people are rather deceiving us,” he stated.
Ghana heads to the polls on December 07, 2024, elect a President and Members of Parliament from 275 constituencies. The contest, since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992, has been a battle between the NPP and NDC.
Some polls that have been conducted by some research firms so far indicate that former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, who will be contesting as an independent candidate, as well as Nana Kwame Bediako, representing the New Force, are the possible candidates to follow the two major political parties.
Kyiri Abosom’s GUM placed third in the last election but has not featured in any of the polls conducted this year so far. This, he says, is due to a survey being conducted by non credible poll houses.
