Stand-in captain of the Black Stars Mohammed Kudus has apologised for the recent performance of the team.

The Stars drew goalless against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers before losing 2-0 to the same side in the return leg.

The results have put the four-time African champions on the brink of missing out on the tournament.

In a statement released on Wednesday, a day after the loss to Sudan, West Ham United midfielder Kudus admitted that the results did not reflect the aspiration and pride the team has in representing Ghana.

“On behalf of the entire team, I would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the people of Ghana for our recent performances against Sudan in Accra and Libya.

“Despite our utmost effort and dedication, the results did not reflect our aspirations or the pride we have in representing our beloved nation.

“We understand the disappointment and frustration this has caused, and we share these feeling.”

The Black Stars have come under heavy criticisms following their failure to win a match so far in the AFCON  qualifiers.

They were beaten at home by Angola and drew with Niger before coming face-to-face with the Netherlands.

“We want to assure Ghanaians that we are committed to learning from our mistakes, regrouping, and working tirelessly to restore the Black Stars to our former country.”

He rallied fans and urged them to continue to support Black Stars as all is not lost.

“We value the unwavering support and loyalty you’ve shown us, and we’re determined to make you proud once again.

“We urge all fans to stand by us during this challenging period. Your encouragement and faith in us will fuel our determination to succeed.”
