It’s barely three weeks until the general elections, and the La General Hospital project site remains deserted, weeks after 3news reported that work had been halted.
Residents are appealing to the government to fulfill its promise of completing the project before the elections.
On October 28, 3news reported that work at the La General Hospital redevelopment project had halted and that worker had deserted the site over an alleged shortage of funds.
In response, the Ministry of Health clarified that work had not halted, but rather, the contractor is awaiting payment to resume work, in line with standard operational procedures for all government projects.
It’s been over two weeks since the report, and the workers have yet to return to the site. TV3’s visit to the site on Thursday, November 14, found the yard still empty. Perhaps the contractor is still waiting to receive the funds from the government.
Meanwhile, the helpless residents can only plead for the basic amenities they desperately need.
“People from Nungua, Teshie, all over come here for healthcare. From the look of things, it doesn’t look like they will complete it now.” Nana Yaw said.
Another, Samuel will rather hold the president to ransom.
“This La hospital thing is very worrying. He should come and complete it for us, else we won’t vote for him or support him.”
“He should come and do it for us before he leaves power,” another said.
Nmaa, a 91-year-old grandmother who has lived in the area her entire life, could not fathom the situation.
“I used to walk to the clinic. This is not good. All we need is the hospital completed.”
She is not alone. Aunty Racheal, another resident, also appealed to the president to be honest with them about the status of the project.
“Today this, today that. They should just tell us the truth about the status of the hospital. If they can’t do it too, they should say it.”
Meanwhile, 3news has learned that President Akufo-Addo plans to visit the project site on Tuesday, November 19.
