The Director of Electoral Affairs for the Bawumia campaign team, Peter Mac Manu, has said that the NDC’s Amenfi Central candidate did not qualify to contest the December elections.
Mr. Mac Manu says the candidature of Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) representative in the Amenfi Central constituency’s nomination should have been rejected by the EC.
He asserts the nominations had closed at the time the party submitted the businesswoman’s forms, following a court injunction which thwarted her filing.
He explains on TV3’s Agenda Monday, November 25, 2024, that at the time the court lifted the injunction for Gyan Cudjoe to be added to the race, the Electoral Commission had closed its nomination and shouldn’t have accepted her documents.
However, the Commission, according to Mac Manu, after an IPAC meeting, approved the nomination which the NDC accepted, despite its constant criticism of the EC being biased against them.
“Recently, there is this lady at Amenfi Central the court placed an injunction for contesting the parliamentary elections. The injunction was on until another court vacated it. But the EC does not have an open ended nomination period so by the time court vacated the injunction, the nomination period had elapsed so they shouldn’t have accepted her nomination.
“We went to IPAC, they accepted it and lifted it that if the court has lifted it that your nomination date is passed, why should you go back and give her an opportunity?” he quizzed.
Mac Manu further stated that there are other political parties who submitted their forms and made mistakes but were not given the opportunity to correct them for resubmission after the nominations were closed.
Because I am aware that there are other political parties who submitted their nomination forms but were disqualified. But they go and make it right. Are you going to open the nominations for them again? So she doesn’t qualify but they did it for NDC now they are happy,” he stated.
