The Mankrado of Gomoa Asempayin in the Gomoa West district of the Central region, Nana Kumasah Krampa II, has asked the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, to prioritise the development of the Central region.

He wants the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration to focus on developing the numerous and outstanding tourism sites in the region to promote economic development.

The Central region is endowed with vast arable lands and rich deposits of natural resources like; gold, beryl and bauxite in the Upper Denkyira district; petroleum and natural gas at Saltpond; kaolin in the Mfantsiman district and diamond in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa enclave, including pigment clay.

Additionally, the region is famous for its palm-fringed beaches, fascinating fishing villages, historical castles, towns and rich natural attractions.

Despite the resources and the numerous tourism sites, the Central region is named among the poorest regions in Ghana.

Nana Kumasah Krampa, who doubles as the Mankrado of the Ninfa Division of the Gomoa Assin traditional area, speaking in an interview with Onua News expressed disappointment in the successive governments for failing to develop the region.

The chief questioned why the region is deprived after having four (4) of its indigenes as Vice Presidents in the Fourth Republic.

He used the occasion to congratulate Mr. Mahama for his overwhelming victory in the just ended general elections.

He, however, challenged the Vice President- elect, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, to use her office to bring development to the Central region.
