A second-half penalty by Lucky Nwafor secured a vital win for bottom-placed Accra Lions as the second round of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League begins.

A handball in the 71st minute by title chasers and former champions Medeama SC resulted in a penalty awarded the home side.

Nwafor stepped up and converted for Lions to lift them off the base of the League.

Saturday’s win serves as a booster for returnee coach Rainer Kraft’s men as they seek to avoid relegation from the top-flight domestic league.

They now go past Legon Cities, Karela United FC and Dreams FC in the battle to avoid relegations.

Their next game will be against debutants Vision FC.

The results at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium will not be welcomed by the visitors, whose title dreams continue to fade.

They will return to the TnA Stadium to await Legon Cities in Week 19.
