President John Dramani Mahama’s initial performance within his first 100 days in office has been commendable, renowned economist and former Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Professor Stephen Adei, has lauded.
Prof. Adei says President Mahama has been impressive so far after being in office for just two months.
Comparing his output with previous governments, the Professor indicated that Mahama, so far, scores above all the others, except for Nkrumah whose first 100 days he couldn’t recount because he was relatively younger.
His assertion suggests the President has performed better than all his predecessors in the Fourth Republic.
“His Excellency, the President has done very well in the first 100 days. I mean, government after government. I was too young to have observed the first 100 days of Nkrumah, but thereafter, when he was overthrown, I was in my final year at training college. Since then, I have observed the early days of every government, and I would give him a very high score for what he has done,” Prof Adei said on Accra-based JoyNews Thursday, March 06, 2025.
The former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), however, asserted that the true resilience of Mahama’s leadership is now going to be tested since he is yet to take tough decisions that will help stable the plummeting economy he inherited and also ensure economic growth.
He noted that the first 100 days, which he termed ‘honeymoon stage’, has so far been awesome.
“This is the honeymoon stage, and I will give him a good score. But the real challenge lies in stabilising the economy, generating revenue, and addressing key issues such as Ghana’s limited gains from its mineral resources and the fight against illegal mining (galamsey),” he added.
He wished the President well and expressed optimism for the future, highlighting the challenge of always having to reset the agenda for the state.
“So far, he has done very well, and we wish him the best because Ghana cannot continue resetting the agenda,” he added.
