The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has praised Connect FM for its high-quality content that promotes community well-being.
During a visit from Connect FM’s event team to his office, Minister Nelson emphasized the importance of radio stations creating programs that cater to the specific needs of their local communities.
He encouraged radio station operators to focus on producing content that addresses the unique challenges and concerns of their listeners, rather than just broadcasting generic programs.
Commissioned in 2016, Connect FM 97.1, a subsidiary of the Media General Group, has become a household name in the Western, Western North, and Central regions of Ghana.
As its slogan “Nye Ne Wonam” implies, the station has consistently topped major polls from reputable institutions, solidifying its position as the leading radio station in the region.
Despite intense competition from over 40 radio stations in the area, Connect FM has maintained its top spot, demonstrating its commitment to delivering high-quality content and exceptional service to its listeners.
As Connect FM prepares to launch the 5th edition of its annual event, Connect Western Best Brains (CWBB), on Wednesday, March 19, the Events team, led by the Event, Marketing, and Promotions Manager Michael Gawu, paid a courtesy visit to Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson on Wednesday, March 12.
The purpose of the visit was to invite the Minister to the launch. He was impressed with Connect FM’s performance, applauding them for their quality content that promotes the well-being of the community.
“I’ve been following your community development initiatives and programs, and I must commend your recent effort to educate market women on fire safety and prevention in our market centers.”
“In these challenging economic times, it’s heartbreaking to see people struggle to make a living, only to lose everything to a fire. Your proactive approach to empowering traders with the knowledge to operate safely and prevent fires is truly commendable,” he said.
The CWBB initiative has made tremendous progress since its inception in 2020. Initially, it started with a modest participation of schools within the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly.
However, by its fourth edition in 2024, it had expanded to encompass fourteen Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies in the Western Region.
The quiz competition is designed to engage Junior High School students, broadening their knowledge base and serving as a preparatory platform for BECE candidates.
Minister Joseph Nelson pledged his support for the Connect FM Western Best Brains contest, highlighting the evolution of modern radio. According to him, radio has transcended its traditional role, now focusing on creating programs that cater to the communities they serve.
“Learning is crucial for children’s development, shaping their future. Connect FM’s quiz competition is commendable, boosting kids’ confidence and learning.”
“As Regional Minister, I fully support your efforts. Initiatives like yours push the Western Region forward. The radio landscape has evolved, with hosts now thinking creatively, prioritizing community interests. Your innovative approach is exciting, and I salute you for it. You have my full support for all initiatives promoting regional development,” he pledged.
Event, Marketing, and Promotions Manager of Connect FM, Michael Gawu, who led the team expressed his sincere gratitude to the Minister for the warm welcome.

He also pledged that Connect FM is ready to collaborate with the Western Regional Coordinating Council to drive the region’s development agenda forward.
