President Mahama has sworn-in new Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, DGP 3 Patience Baffoe-Bonnie.

The President also officially announced the appointment of Acting Chief Fire Officer, DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong and Acting new Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, DCI Samuel Basentale Amadu.

Both Acting Officers of the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Immigration Service will be sworn-in after their respective Governing Councils are established and their appointment approved.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Jubilee House on Monday, March 17, 2025.

President Mahama while addressing the new leaders expressed confidence that they will bring visionary leadership, innovative thinking and a renewed sense of purpose in their roles.

“The Officer sworn-in today and those who have been appointed into positions are not newcomers to their respective agencies. They are seasoned professionals with years’ experience, unwavering dedications and a thorough understanding of the institutions they have now been appointed to head…their track record speak of themselves,” the President said.

President Mahama assured the new Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service of his commitment to institute alternative measures to ease the pressure and resolve over burden in Ghana’s prisons.

He charged Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie to ensure that prisons in Ghana become transformative centres not just places to incarcerate convicts.

“The responsibility falls on you Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie to lead the charge in transforming our prisons into true centres of reformation not centres of incarceration. you have my full support in this mission,” President Mahama stressed.

To the new Acting Chief Fire Officer, DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the President assured that his administration will provide every necessary resource to ensure that the Ghana Fire Service is well equipped to protect lives and property.

“As indicated in the 2025 budget ass essentials projects will be completed and officer welfare will be a priority,” Mahama said.

To the the new Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, President Mahama said “I charge you to intensify intelligence operations, and work closely with other law enforcement agencies to dismantle human smuggling networks. Surveillance at all entry and exit points must be strengthened and modernized to prevent and detect illegal activity.”

The President urged the Comptroller-General to ensure that under his leadership, digitalization or visa processing permit issuance will be accelerated as well as effective border monitoring.
