Scores of shops are in flames at ‘Blue Light’, a popular trading spot at Adum in the Central Business Centre of Kumasi.
The cause of the fire is immediately unknown. Fire fighters have been battling the blaze which started on the dawn of Friday, March 21, 2025.
OnuaOnline’s William Evans-Nkum reports some shop owners have attempted defying the ravaging flames to salvage their wares, throwing caution to the wind despite warnings from the police and fire fighters to stay away from the scene.
A shop owner had to be forced out where a ladder was needed at a point to evacuate him from danger.
“The fire fighters have not done enough to kill this fire” a distraught shop owner tells Evans-Nkum.
Many items in the shops where the fire ravaged, according to the Ghana National Fire Service, contain combustibles as sound-like explosives could be heard from some of the burning shops.
Fire fighters and the police are still at the fire scene trying to bring situation under control as at the time this report was being filed.
