James Opoku, 43, popularly known as Nana Yaw, has been discovered dead inside his barbershop at Time Enterprise a suburn of New Site in the Effia Kwesimintsim municipality of the Western region.
The Sunday, June 8, 2025 discovery followed concerns raised by his wife, Christina Mensah, after repeated attempts to contact Opoku went unanswered. She subsequently sent their son, Shadrach, to check on his father for some money for their upkeep for the day.
Shadrach reported to Connect FM’s Abraham Mensah that the shop’s entrance was locked from the inside. After knocking repeatedly and calling his father’s name with no response, he entered the containerized shop and found Opoku’s lifeless body near the entrance.
“There were signs of a struggle,” Shadrach stated. “He appeared to have crawled several yards from his mattress toward the door,” he added.
Christina Mensah corroborated her son’s account. The body has been transferred to a local mortuary pending autopsy and further investigation by the Ghana Police Service.
