A mid-afternoon collision between two taxis near the BU Junction has left three people injured, including both drivers and a passenger.
The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. between Ketan Junction and BU in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Western Region.
According to eyewitnesses, a Toyota Yaris taxi with registration number GW 5994-24, traveling from Sekondi towards Ketan, collided with another taxi, CR 1079-21, which was attempting to emerge onto the main road.
Eyewitness reports indicate that the second driver’s view was obstructed by a parked trotro at the junction, which was picking up passengers.
This limited visibility is believed to have contributed to the crash.
“The driver couldn’t see the oncoming vehicle because of the trotro. Just as he moved onto the road, the other taxi slammed into him,” one witness recounted.
The impact of the collision caused the second taxi to somersault and land in a nearby storm drain.
Residents quickly rushed the injured victims to a nearby hospital for treatment.
This latest incident adds to a worrying trend in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
In the past two weeks alone, five fatal road accidents have been recorded, raising alarm among residents.
Many are now calling on the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) to step up interventions and enforce stricter road safety measures to prevent further incidents.
