The NADMO warehouse in the Western Region, stocked with relief items for disaster victims, has been looted under suspicious circumstances.
The items stolen include over 50 sacks of rice, gallons of vegetable oil, plastic buckets, and boxes of soap and some vital supplies meant to support flood victims across the region.
The looting has left the Western Region NADMO almost entirely depleted of edible stock, raising concerns about its capacity to respond to emergencies.
This shocking revelation came to light when the new Western Regional NADMO Director, Daniel Darlington Atisio, tour the facility to familiarise himself with operations.
He revealed that the warehouse was looted on two separate occasions in December 2024 and April 2025 both under suspicious circumstances.
“I am reliably briefed that in December 2024 prior to Christmas, the office realized that some relief items, notability sacks of rice and gallons of vegetable oil got stolen from the warehouses…In the month of April, similar theft issues happened in the warehouse and in all instances there wasn’t a force entry.
“It is clear this wasn’t the work of an outsider. Whoever took the items had keys to the warehouse. This is an inside job, and I am not going to take it lightly,” he stated.
Mr. Atisio confirmed that the incident has been reported to the police. However, due to the unusual nature of the theft, he is calling for a forensic audit of the warehouse and NADMO’s internal operations.
“I will be meeting the CID handling the case to ensure investigations are expedited. I understand the caution statements of the former Regional Director, the accountant, and the storekeeper have already been taken and am going to ensure that the culprits are out before court and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent for other staff who also have such intensions,” he disclosed.
The looting has left NADMO’s Western Regional office critically low on food supplies, raising serious concerns about its ability to respond swiftly to emergencies, especially as the rainy season intensifies.
In light of the situation, Daniel Darlington Atisio assured that urgent steps will be taken to replenish the warehouse with essential relief items to ensure NADMO is prepared to support disaster victims, even as investigations into the theft continue.
