The Minority in Parliament has kicked against the recent termination of appointment of over 100 staff of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

The BoG on Thursday, June 19 revoked appointments of over 100 staff. In letters signed by Mrs Lucy Sasu, Head of the Human Resource and Capacity Development Department, the bank cited employment terms regarding probation as the basis for the action.

“In accordance with the terms of your contract of employment, a satisfactory six (6) month probationary period was to be completed. Management regrets to inform you that your appointment cannot be confirmed,” the termination notice stated.

Addressing the press in Parliament on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Minority described these terminations as “unlawful” and infringes on the rights of the affected employees.

Savelugu MP, Fatahiya Abdul Aziz who addressed journalists on behalf of the Minority Caucus noted that the Bank of Ghana must reinstate every single dismissed worker to their rightful positions.

“The appointments were lawful; their terminations were not,” she said.

According to the Minority the action taken by the Bank of Ghana is a “slap in the face of Parliament and disregard for democratic oversight”, particularly when a motion for parliamentary inquiry is pending before the House.

The Caucus assured of its relentless effort to demand a parliamentary inquiry into the dismissals.

“The Governor of Bank of Ghana must face Parliament and explain this heartless abuse of power. You are not above the law and you will answer to the people.

“The Minority will push a motion for a full parliamentary inquiry with unrelenting vigour. We will expose this injustice, work tirelessly and reverse these terminations,” the Minority stated.

The Minority urged the Chief Labour Officer, the National Labour Commission and CHRAJ to intervene and protect the rights of these workers by upholding the law.
