The Minister of Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has condemned the gruesome killing of the Ashanti Region Kusasi Chief, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe.
The chief, who also served as the Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region, was killed by some unknown assailants at his home at Asawase F-Line, near the community centre on Tuesday night, July 22, 2025.
According to eyewitnesses, two men, around 8:40pm, arrived with motorbikes, wielding an AK-47 rifle, and opened fire on the man and fled the scene afterwards.
He was rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In a statement on his social media Wednesday, July 23, the Minister, whose constituency the incident occurred, extended his condolences to the “bereaved family, the Kusasi community in the Ashanti Region, and the entire traditional leadership of the Kusaug area.”
Mohammed-Mubarak intimated that the attack goes beyond the traditional authority to destabilise the holistic peace in the country.
“This heinous act is not only an attack on a revered traditional authority but also a grievous wound to the peace and security we all cherish.”
The Minister assured the family, likewise the Ghana Police Service, that the perpetrators will be arrested and brought to book.
“I want to assure the family and the people of Ghana that our security agencies are fully committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this crime are swiftly apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law,” he assured.

It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I have received the news of the tragic killing of the Ashanti Region Kusasi Chief, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, who also served as the Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.
As a Member of Parliament for Asawase and on behalf of the good people of the constituency, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi community in the Ashanti Region, and the entire traditional leadership of the Kusaug area.
