An abandoned 40-unit classroom block project at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School (KNUST SHS) is on the verge of collapse, posing a serious threat to students and staff.

The GETFund-initiated project, which began in 2008, was halted in 2010 due to financial constraints, leaving the structure in a deteriorating state.

Despite its incomplete and unsafe condition, portions of the building have been repurposed as makeshift classrooms due to a severe shortage of learning space.

At the launch of the 65th anniversary celebration of the school, the Headmaster, Duodu Antwi Boasiako Anthony appealed to authorities to prioritize the school’s needs by completing the block.

“With the completion of this project, the school can easily be rated as Grade A. We are pleading with the government to help complete this project. Our students and teachers are at risk every day,” he said.

The Headmaster acknowledged the contribution of the Old Students Association but asked for more. The 40-unit block when completed will have 12 science and visual art laboratories.

Until work resumes, students and staff remain at the mercy of the deteriorating structure, forced to balance education with the looming threat of disaster.

The school community is urging swift action before tragedy strikes.
