The 31st Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has voted to approve the proposal of a third term for a President.
At the Congress held at the Hon. E.T. Mensah Hall at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram, 114 members voted for the decision.
Six voted against the proposal while three abstained.
This was the cardinal decision taken at the Congress, held on Tuesday, August 12.
There has been public outcry over the basis for which stakeholders are seeking an extension of the term limit for a GFA President.
By the current regulation, a President of the Association seeks re-election once and he goes for four years per term.
According to proponents of this, the new amendment will allow for ample time for the GFA President to make significant gains before leaving office.
The regulation is, however, said to be masterminded by allies of the current President, Kurt Okraku.
Asked after congress what he makes of the decision and whether he may go for a third term, the CAF Second Vice President said: “The question is premature.
“We have at the minute almost two-and-a-half years to serve the Ghanaian game and when it comes to that time I will make a decision just like many other people who are eligible to make a decision and to contest.”
