Candidates whose results have been cancelled in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), will be notified through their Heads of schools from Monday, August 25, 2025.

This was announced by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

This follows the official release of the provisional results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Ghana.

However, there are reports of some irregularities during the examination and script marking, resulting in the cancellation of subject results of 718 candidates, cancellation of the entire results of 177 candidates, among others.

Also, the Council has withheld results of 93 candidates.

Public Relations Officer of the examination body, John Kapi, feels disappointed that such irregularities kept happening despite series of stakeholder engagements and sensitisation.

He feels invigilators are not doing proper due diligence in their roles.

“It is expected that these irregularities will minimise. Those affected will be officially notified from Monday. Their schools in the various regions and districts will be notified for onward action,” he stated.

He added that “ome of these infractions were that they were in possession of phones during the exams.”

According to him, parents were to ensure their wards leave their phones at home, or their invigilators ensured the devices were not taken to the exam centres.

“They were not properly searched. Counsellors in schools need to do a better job” he said.

Meanwhile, first-year students in Senior High Schools (SHS), both Single Track and Transitional schools across the country are to report to school on Saturday, October 18 2025.
