The Nana Hima Dekyi Hospital in Dixcove, Western region, has received timely medical equipment and facility support from traditional leaders of the Lower Dixcove Traditional Area.
The Nana Hima Dekyi Hospital, built in 1972 by the then Chief, Nana Hima Dekyi I, and handed over to the Ghana Health Service in 1985, continues to serve as a vital healthcare center for the people of Dixcove. But the facility is severely under resourced hence hampering quality heath care delivery in the community.
It is from this backdrop that, Nananom of the Lower Dixcove Traditional Area, led by the Asokuahene, Nana Gozie III, as part of activities marking the 2025 Lower Dixcove Kundum Festival donated essential medical supplies and equipment to the hospital.
The donation, which included hospital beds, wheelchairs, and other medical supplies, were made to support quality healthcare delivery in the area.
Nana Gozie III explained that festivals such as Kundum go beyond culture and celebration and also an avenue to ensure the well-being of the people.
He emphasised the need for the hospital to cultivate a maintenance culture to extend the lifespan of the equipment.
Adding her voice, Nana Afiba Kwaaba highlighted that her foremost priority remains education in Ahanta West.
She noted that her office sponsored a quiz competition as part of the festival activities, aimed at equipping students with knowledge and confidence.
According to her, education will pave the way for the youth of Ahanta West to become future professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and pilots.
She also encouraged young people to acquire employable skills to contribute meaningfully to the development of the area.
Hospital authorities described the donation as timely and a great relief, aligning with the festival’s broader goal of fostering development through health and education.
