President John Dramani Mahama has extended a profound gesture of gratitude to 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu who played a critical role in recovering the bodies of eight victims from the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
Representing the President, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, visited the community on Wednesday, August 27, to personally thank the rescuers and deliver a comprehensive package of support on behalf of the government.
The helicopter crash, which occurred in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve in the Adansi Akrofrom District on August 6, claimed the lives of eight high-profile officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who were on official duty at the time of the accident.
Speaking to the residents, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah conveyed the President’s deep appreciation for their swift and courageous actions.
“President [Mahama] has asked me to represent him and thank the residents who helped us recover the bodies of our eight men. We have a plaque for all of you in honour of what you did,” he said.

In addition to the symbolic gesture, the government presented a substantial financial package to the community. Mr. Asiedu Nketiah announced a cash donation of GHS100,000 for the 13 individuals directly involved in the rescue operation. He further presented GHS20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council to facilitate traditional rites.
“Whatever will be left behind, let your DCEs and party chairmen know so we clear those,” he added, assuring the community of continued support.
Beyond the financial aid, the President has made significant commitments to the future well-being of the rescuers and the entire community.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah announced that all 13 individuals who participated in the body recovery efforts would be offered jobs, tailored to their individual capabilities. President Mahama also pledged to address the community’s infrastructural needs, with a promise to fix their road.
“President Mahama has also assured to fix your road,” Mr. Asiedu Nketiah stated.
