Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has revealed that he will implement a rotation system to manage his squad as the club balances the demands of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Ghanaian teams often face fixture congestion when competing on the continent, which has historically affected league performances.

Zito intends to learn from these challenges by carefully managing minutes, resting players when necessary, and rotating positions to maintain energy levels.

Speaking on Akoma FM 87.9MHz, Zito acknowledged the challenge of a packed schedule and stressed the importance of keeping his players fresh while still remaining competitive in all competitions.

“I’m now trying to see my players’ abilities and capabilities on the field, so going forward I will not be loading the players with all games. Rather, there will be some rotations at some positions in our games,” he said.

The coach explained that squad rotation is part of a broader strategy to prevent fatigue, reduce injury risks, and maintain high performance levels.

Zito pointed to the experiences of other Ghanaian clubs who struggled domestically while competing in African competitions as lessons for Kotoko.

“Many clubs like Nsoatreman, Medeama, Dreams FC, and Samartex recently, when playing in Africa, were struggling in the league due to their continental fixtures. We want to avoid falling into the same trap,” he added.

This strategic approach is expected to help Kotoko compete effectively in the CAF Confederation Cup while keeping their GPL campaign on track.

Kotoko fans can expect a carefully managed squad as Zito seeks to combine ambition with practicality, ensuring the team is physically and mentally ready for all challenges ahead.
