The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has emphasized the need for collaboration between traditional authorities and local government institutions to promote effective governance, social harmony, and inclusive development.

During a meeting with the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, the Minister highlighted the importance of addressing chieftaincy disputes and promoting peace and stability in the region.

Some of the key issues discussed included:
– Chieftaincy Disputes: The Minister expressed concern over recent chieftaincy-related violence in some parts of the region, which resulted in loss of lives and destruction of properties.
– National Sanitation Day: The Minister highlighted the importance of the National Sanitation Day initiative, which aims to promote cleanliness and civic responsibility among citizens.
– Collaboration and Partnership: The Minister emphasized the need for collaboration between traditional authorities, local government institutions, and other stakeholders to promote development and address challenges facing the country.

Mr Ibrahim called on traditional leaders to serve as catalysts of change and to inspire efficiency, transparency, and harmony between the Ministry, traditional authorities, and local government institutions. He assured the House that government remains committed to providing the necessary policy, institutional, and financial support for the development of the chieftaincy institution.

The President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, King Prof. Odaifo Welentsi III, expressed gratitude to the Minister for his visit and commitment to promoting peace and stability in the chieftaincy institution. He highlighted some of the challenges facing the House, including financial constraints and deliberate delays in the trial of chieftaincy cases.

The President also called on the Minister to collaborate with the Lands Minister to secure office lands that have come under encroachment by miscreants. He assured the Minister that the House will continue to work with government to promote peace, stability, and development in the region.
